Wonderful Counselor
By Melanie Chitwood

“And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6b (NIV)

The past year has brought many unexpected challenges in my life, mostly in the form of stress over various relationships. These concerns wake me up early in the morning to pray, and they’ve led me to be increasingly dependent on God.

One morning as I was reading my Bible, God reminded me that I am not alone and I do not face these challenges on my own. I’ve known this for many years, but this morning God moved that truth from my head to my heart with the words from today’s key verse.

Jesus is my Wonderful Counselor. Have you ever paused to dwell on those words? Jesus is my Wonderful Counselor. When I don’t know how to be a mother to my newly turned teenage son, Jesus is my Wonderful Counselor. When I don’t know how to comfort my relatives going through a hard time in their marriage, Jesus is my Wonderful Counselor. When I want to offer wise counsel to my friend whose life seems to be coming apart, Jesus is my Wonderful Counselor.

As I looked at the other names of Jesus, I was reminded of what kind of Counselor He is. He is our Mighty God – God’s strength surpasses any attacks the world brings. He is our Everlasting Father – His love and strength are eternal. And He is our Prince of Peace – He calms our fears and worries when we hand them over to Him.

Do you know Jesus as your Wonderful Counselor? Whatever concerns or challenges you face today, you can take them to Jesus.

Have you asked Him into your heart and are you sure that you are a child of God? If not, click on the “Do you know Him” link below, and ask Jesus to be your Wonderful Counselor today. He loves you and can’t wait to be there for you now and always.

And if you already know Jesus as Savior, have you trusted Him to be Wonderful Counselor as well?

I just want to let you know, that I receive devotions from this website everyday from a good friend! And today your devotion is awesome, God is so good, He will give you what you need at the time you need it. I am facing a situation with one of my daughters, where a spirit of suicide is trying to attach himself to her (and He WILL NOT SUCEED! IN THE NAME OF JESUS). I was not really sure what to do or even say, all I know to do is trust God for direction, so I want to thank you for being sensitive to the spirit and sharing this awesome word! He is not only my counselor, but He is also hers! I pray that God will Bless you beyond your imagination!

that was such a blessing...i made a list at the end of 2007 of things that I needed God to move on and give me wisdom about. Some of these things are very life-changing and on a sensitive time schedule. I have been successful (so far) of keeping those things in the hands of God. last night, however, the enemy tried to rush in with worrying and doubts. i think i spent a good while just praying for wisdom, letting God know that I knew at the right time he would bless me with wisdom about each of those situations. today's devotion was just a confirmation of that. can you believe that as many times as i've read that he's a "Counselor" i never stopped to really consider it just like that? God bless you and the Proverbs 31 ministry!

I am new to your website. I just recently came upon it. I have to say, I was led to it by our awesome God. Today's devotion seems like it was written for me. I feel like every aspect of my life is out of control. I just started christian counseling this past week. I have never thought of God as a counselor. However, I see now that he is the BEST COUNSELOR I could ask for. I pray that he will give me the wisdom to see that I can only see part of the picture, where as he can see the entire picture of my life. I also pray that God will give me patience for his timing. I want to thank you for this devotion, and I hope it will bless others as it has me. Thank you Proverbs 31 Ministries!!! :)

I am so glad I came to this posting this morning. I was your daughter once. 20 years ago, but God did not give up on me. I will keep your daughter in my forefront of my prayers for you and your family. May the lord pour his blessings on you today.
